Research techniques for the creative media industries

                                     Protecting your rights and earnings

  1.     Why do you think music artists and other people working in the media are concerned about digital reproduction?

Music artist will be concerned about this as they can lose a lot of money as the licensing deal is struck with PRS and you tube with the royalty payments for online content. This will also cause a lot of concerns because people with the internet can now download the music and then share it. From doing this it creates problems for the people who are working to produce these songs, so it would be people such as songwriters, musicians and agents. With their music being downloaded it will be difficult for them to see there earnings and it will make them loss money from this. It is not just only music but films and TV series can be downloaded and that will also cause people working in those industries to loss a lot of earnings from people not paying to see the movies they have produced.

2. Why is a website such as this a help to organisations like the PRS?

The organisation PRS is a big help because it represents the rights for a lot of music in the UK. They will license other organisation  to play music and they will protect each piece of copyright and this is a benefit for the PSR as they have a lot of other music organisations to help represent and ensure that their copyrights are protected and will not be used by other music organisation.

3. What might happen if sites like YouTube are forced to pay too much money to show digital media content on their websites?

Sites like YouTube is a big use of the media as it has thousands of people uploading their videos about a lot of topics and uploading it to YouTube for people to watch and subscribe to them. But if the company of YouTube will have to keep paying loads of amounts of money to keep YouTube up and running then to ensure that they do not loss all their money they will have to stop YouTube or if they still want to continue to pay then it will lead the company to becoming bankrupt and will cause a lot of people to lose their jobs. This will effect music industries as well because if YouTube is not working then people will not be able to see the music videos that have been produced. Another option that the company of YouTube could do to keep it running is to start charging people to upload there videos and this will cause people to lose their earnings with things like music videos people could have to pay a lot to make sure that it is on the YouTube site.
